York Interior Designer, Tricia Douglas: Period House

Period House, York - Interior design project from Tricia Douglas

Remit: Complete refurbishment of a substantial five bedroom/four bathroom period York property within its own walled garden.

Execution: The inspiring blend of old-world grandeur and contemporary elegance mix exquisitely in this restored Edwardian property.

Living Rooms, TV/Sitting Room. Comfortable contrast sofas, faux animal fur throws and dark wood furniture/console tables with sidelights give background ambience to this relaxing room.

Drawing Room. Formal room with light silk sofas and black chairs. Bay window dressed in cascading silk curtains floods room with light. Wrought iron/glass tables designed and commissioned from local fabricator. Venetian style wall mirrors reflecting light and space.

Living Kitchen. Completely remodelled area of the property with extensive renovation. Satin finish limestone flooring. Handmade kitchen units topped with honed African Black granite and stainless steel appliances. The dining/sitting area has two sets of purpose-made French doors and is capped by a huge glass roof lantern.

Bedrooms. Master bedroom/en-suite. Decorated in neutral tones, crackle-painted furniture with black as contrast soft furnishings. Bathroom in cool limestone with furniture commissioned by a local craftsman.

Guest suite 1. Masculine feel with sleigh bed, wooden Venetian blinds, ebony cane sofas and old leather suitcases for a colonial feel.

Guest suite 2. Feminine feel with ivory tone distressed furniture. Walls in soft hues tone with over length silk curtains and a restored French bed complete romantic feel.

Hall and Stairs. Stripped of years of paint to reveal beautiful oak handrail throughout the four flights leading to original servants’ quarters. Developed into two contemporary decorated bedrooms and bathroom.
